《孫子兵法・始計篇》:「夫未戰而廟算勝者，得算多也；未戰而廟算不勝者，得算少也。」

In Sun-tzu’s The Art of Warfare, the chapter “Laying Plans” states: “before launching the fight, the more the strategizing in the temple, the higher the probability for victory; the less the strategizing in the temple, the lower the probability for victory.” 

 

真正的勝者，從來不是等開打後才想辦法贏，而是在還沒開打之前，就已經穩操勝券，篤定自己會贏才投入戰局，這正是《孫子兵法》所說的：「勝可為也」。現代人習慣在局勢裡反應，但《孫子兵法》教我們要在局勢外主導。

 

會贏的人，不是因為運氣好，而是因為他知道什麼戰不該打、什麼局要先佈。經過事前周密的沙盤推演、謀畫部署，不必等到真的上戰場，就能大致判斷出作戰結果。

 

換句話說：勝者不是戰場上的廝殺者，而是決策桌上的佈局者。

 

True victors never wait until the fight has been launched and then start trying to figure out how to win; instead, prior to the fighting, the reason for them to decide to enter the battle is because they have already been guaranteed to win; this is what Sun-tzu’s The Art of Warfare states: “Victory is achievable.” Contemporary people tend to react within the frame of the circumstances, but Sun-tzu’s The Art of Warfare teaches us to initiate out of the frame of the circumstances.

The winner’s victory is not due to good luck, but due to the fact that he/she knows what battle should not be entered and that he/she knows how to position himself/herself beforehand. By means of prior meticulous military simulations and deployment planning, the outcome of the war-to-be can be roughly decided without having to actually enter the battlefield.

In other words, the victory-generators are not the warriors in the battlefield, but the strategists round the policy-making table.
