Chapter 38 of Tao Te Ching states: “The supreme virtue never aims to be virtuous, so as to be constantly virtuous; the secular virtue aims to be always virtuous, so as to be non-virtuous.” As a brand loses its initial mind, so will it lose the soul linked to people.  Lou-tzu reminds us: true virtue is not the deliberately generated image, nor the gorgeous external packaging; instead, it is the spontaneous expression of the inward belief and the everyday practice.  We witnessed too many brands or celebrities, who had been so admirable in the beginning, but ended up making people disappointed.  The problem is not about lacking techniques or creativities, but that they have forgotten about why they had initially set out.  As behavior and belief go against each other, loyalty will go sour, and value will collapse.  In this selection-driven-by-value era, what people purchase is not the product itself, but its concept; what people pursue is not the appearance, but the sincerity.  Hence, ask yourself once again: do you still remember the initial mind?  Once it is shattered, no matter with how many more innovations, it is still impossible to win back people’s loyalty. * This is a classic course that can help you “return to the initial mind and re-establish life’s belief.”

Chapter 63 of Tao Te Ching states: “Act through non-action; serve through non-service; taste through non-taste.  Amplify where small and add where less; treat injustices in accordance with virtue.” In the instantly ever-changing business world, policy-making is no longer a multiple-choice question.  Lao-tzu reminds us of “act through non-action,” which does not mean doing nothing, but means that before taking actions, it is necessary to first identify all the priorities and the correlations—this is exactly the most required mantra for the modern businesses when facing the pressure of high uncertainties and competition.  Initial caution and racing appear to be mutually conflicting, but are actually reciprocating yin-and-yang.  Acting cautiously is to prevent catastrophes; running fast in small steps is to take advantage of the upward trend.  True wisdom resides in patiently observing the trending amid uncertainties, and in how to best advance or retreat in the ever-changing situations. * This course focuses on how to cultivate “the internal stabilizing capability” and “the external adaptative capability” in the ever-changing situations.

In Sun-tzu’s The Art of Warfare, the chapter “the Nine Situations” states: “The essence of war is speediness; take advantage of the enemy’s unreadiness; via unexpected routes, attack the unguarded.” To make a breakthrough out of the status quo, it is not enough by merely working as hard as possible; instead, it is much more necessary to be able to make the most of the opportunities and the resources, able to agilely apply the intelligence and the human capital, as well as able to simultaneously raise one’s perspective and scale. Just as the art of warfare states: take advantage of the enemy’s unreadiness; march along the route beyond the enemy’s expectation; attack the area not guarded by the enemy.Only by being insightfully aware of “the personnel” and “the circumstances,” will it be possible to really have control of the overall situation, and to secure the chance of victory. In terms of personal development, what you need is to invest in knowledge and skills, expand the network of social connections, and proactively contact the high achievers, so that you might have the chance to become outstanding amid the fierce competition.Keep in mind: by your circumstances, will your status be determined; by people around you, will your future be shaped. The first step for making a breakthrough is—just go, and try to consult with those who really have the expertise.

In Sun-tzu’s The Art of Warfare, the chapter “The Army on the March” states: “While preparing for a war, first a commander is appointed by the king, then the commander integrates the armies into a centralized force, harmonizes all elements and then pitch the military camp, all of which are easier than the military confrontation. The difficult part of military confrontation lies in adopting the tortuous as the straight, and in treating threats as benefits” 你不是不夠努力,你只是還在等一個「確定答案」,然而那些頂尖的人,早就已經放手執行了。 The problem is not that you have not been working hard enough, but that you are still waiting for a “definite answer;” by contrast, those top-tier people have long been plunging into execution. Why are most people just not able to become a boss? It is because they dare not take action unless they feel “one hundred percent sure.” Nevertheless, the boss’s faith is: business is always initiated somehow chaotically, and modified amid uncertainties. In business, there is no ready script; people who can make it reaching the top, are those who are willing to cross the river by feeling stones, trying to find the right way to win while moving along the path. For the art of warfare, the key lies in on-the-spot reactions, and timely adjustments, able to turn the apparently disadvantageous conditions into the beneficial situations, that is, while holding the poor cards, still able to make it playing a poor hand well.It is the same for starting a business; no one can foresee the whole picture; all that matters is keep moving forward and keep adjusting in accordance with the direction of success. Do you still want to wait until the direction of the wind turns right before taking off? Sorry. This era only rewards those who, in the first place, are willing to step upon the race track.*這是一場教你丟掉安全牌,學會啟動不確定人生的實戰演講。

In Sun-tzu’s The Art of Warfare, the chapter “The Nine Situations” states: “Placed in perilous terrain, then survive; trapped in deadly site, then keep alive. True growth normally does not result from favorable circumstances, but from those apparently unresolvable dilemmas. Just as the art of warfare states: “trapped in a deadly site, then keep alive;” only when a person has been cornered with no way to retreat will it be possible to trigger the person’s infinite internal potential.Hence, we are not afraid of difficulty, since difficulty is the starting point of evolution; we are not afraid of being slow, since going slow enables us to clearly see the direction; we are not afraid of losing, since each step in the process of losing will become a stepping stone toward victory.Doing something unachievable means a challenge; doing something we are not daring enough to do is a breakthrough. Every difficulty shapes a more powerful self. Only by stepping out of the outdated framework of cognition can we stride into a brand-new stage of life.

In Sun-tzu’s The Art of Warfare, the chapter “Attack by Stratagem” states: “Knowing the enemy and also knowing yourself, able to win in every battle; not knowing the enemy but knowing yourself, one win mixed with one defeat; neither knowing the enemy nor knowing yourself, defeated in every battle.” The key to making a deal does not lie in how you introduce yourself, but in whether the other party really trusts you and needs you. In the information-explosion market, everyone asserts they can solve the problem; nevertheless, only by diving into the front line and truly understanding the other party’s situation and pain points will it be possible to open the door to closing the deal.Trust neither depends on being self-centered nor on self-promotion, but on what you have truly achieved. Only through a continuous series of actions, conversations, completed deals, and services can a compelling track record be built. One completed deal means a real story; five completed deals will build your confidence; with ten completed deals, your market positioning will gradually become clear and well-defined.

In Sun-tzu’s The Art of Warfare, the chapter “Weaknesses and Strengths” states: “For warfare, no constant conditions; for water, no constant shapes.  Whoever can secure victory by adapting to the changes of the enemy, is called the divine.” Doing business is like fighting a war; a true master will never blindly make a flash push; instead, he/she knows that it is necessary to first consolidate one’s own advantages, and then selectively launch the attack at the right time. Therefore, at the initial stage, don’t hasten toward innovation; you might as well find a sector benchmark worthy of emulating first—trying to imitate him/her, then become his/her double through learning, and eventually surpass him/her by innovating.Do everything to allow your target customers to enjoy freeloading; this is a rather fine way to initiate a business. Only when customers feel they themselves “get a windfall,” will they let go of their mental defenses and really interact with you, so as to further establish stickiness and sense of trust.*這場演講,不是教你從零開始闖天下,而是教你如何借力使力,開創出屬於自己的勝場。

In Sun-tzu’s The Art of Warfare, the chapter “Weaknesses and Strengths” states: “Everyone eyewitnesses how I won the war, but no one knows how I had developed the winning plan.” At the workplace, be as brave as possible to take on the difficult task. It is because once you make it, you will naturally earn solid strength and arena status; even if you cannot make it, you will still be able to accumulate precious experience and personal growth. Whatever the outcome, it will be a sure-win investment.True top talents always integrate accomplishing tasks for others into training themselves; true growth does not result from picking the easy path, but from daring to shoulder big responsibilities, which in turn enables big achievements. When taking the challenge of accomplishing difficult tasks, it looks so exhausting and so unrewarding, but it is actually upgrading ourselves, helping us to accumulate the experience points and the status points of conquering the enemies; such is really a shortcut helpful for raising our own competency.

Chapter 33 of Tao Te Ching states: “Knowing others means intelligence; knowing ourselves means wisdom.  Overpowering others means strength; overcoming ourselves means might.” When standing in front of a mirror, we are, in fact, not only trying to tidy up our appearance, but to ask ourselves “Do I indeed like such a me?”.  This represents an in-depth self-refection; whether it is the arena me, the facade me or the blind spot me, they all are a part of “the true me.”  Tao Te Ching teaches us how to observe inwardly, empowering us to move from confusion onto clarity, from the blind spots towards the transcendent.  It makes us realize: the true power results from the inward self-awareness and the spiritual cultivation.  Even though, in the external world, both victory and defeat can be witnessed, only by knowing ourselves, can we indeed fearlessly face the world.  Only by courageous self-enlightenment, can life be tenderly changed. * Starting from the inward, this course enables you to learn about how to “enlighten yourself and be yourself.”

In Sun-tzu’s The Art of Warfare, the chapter “Laying Plans” states: “make ourselves undefeatable first, then wait until the enemy turns to be defeatable.” With the opportunity emerging first, so can people exert their capabilities. In the times when the opportunity has not descended yet, the gap between people’s capabilities is very narrow, the difference probably being between 1 and 1.1; however, as the opportunity emerges, the extra 0.1 competency value that you possess might cause the gap between you and others to be gradually amplified tenfold, one hundred-fold, or even one thousand-fold afterwards.Victory or defeat is actually preordained before the battle begins.

In Sun-tzu’s The Art of Warfare, the chapter “The Nine Tactics” states: “Five pitfalls for the generals—absolutely fearless, likely to be killed; being a coward, likely to be captured; being hot-tempered, unable to stand insults; being righteous, unable to bear being shamed; treating people dearly, vulnerable to being endlessly hustled.” Working with the smart guys, the biggest advantage is that you don’t need to particularly pay attention to sustaining their self-esteem. It is because the truly brilliant people will not be easily upset by emotions, nor do they have such an obsessive mentality of “no way but this way.” What they care about is not whether what is said is pleasing, but whether the content is valuable. On the contrary, when working with the silly guys, the way of how to communicate must be greatly adjusted. Even though nine out of ten remarks are clearly affirmative, as long as one of them is not ear-soothing enough, the silly person might think you are targeting him/her.Let alone the case that if the tone is direct, and pinpointedly to the point, the moron will definitely go crazy, not only likely to ruin himself/herself, but even likely to destroy the whole team. This lecture is not about how spring wind can cultivate rain, but about how you should clarify with whom you can move along, and who must be removed, when mobilizing for war.
