In Sun-tzu’s The Art of Warfare, the chapter “Laying Plans” states: “the winning troop secures all the conditions to win first and then seek the battle; the losing troop enters the battle first and then tries to seek victory
The starting point of a victory does not lie in the striking flashes of knives and swords, or in the head-on-head fighting, but, quite early on, in the military simulations, in the strategizing of the think tanks and in the meticulous calculations around the meeting table before the war. As the art of warfare states: for the victors, only after the victory has been guaranteed, do they choose to launch the attack, while for the losers, they just enter the battle first, and then try to seek directions in the midst of fighting.
History has been infinitely proving: success has never come from accidental luck, but from precise positioning decided after meticulous considerations. The business world is exactly like the battlefield; the leader’s vantage point is exemplified in whether able to clearly identify the twists and foresee the risks.
Before making a move, it is absolutely necessary to clearly assess the situation, arrange the pathways, and allocate the resources first; it is because this is the very threshold that will determine victory or defeat.
This lecture is not about how to conquer wherever you go, but about teaching you how to act only after being well-planned, and how to guarantee victory a thousand miles away.
