In Sun-tzu’s The Art of Warfare, the chapter “the Nine Situations” states: “The essence of war is speediness; take advantage of the enemy’s unreadiness; via unexpected routes, attack the unguarded.”
To make a breakthrough out of the status quo, it is not enough by merely working as hard as possible; instead, it is much more necessary to be able to make the most of the opportunities and the resources, able to agilely apply the intelligence and the human capital, as well as able to simultaneously raise one’s perspective and scale. Just as the art of warfare states: take advantage of the enemy’s unreadiness; march along the route beyond the enemy’s expectation; attack the area not guarded by the enemy.
Only by being insightfully aware of “the personnel” and “the circumstances,” will it be possible to really have control of the overall situation, and to secure the chance of victory. In terms of personal development, what you need is to invest in knowledge and skills, expand the network of social connections, and proactively contact the high achievers, so that you might have the chance to become outstanding amid the fierce competition.
Keep in mind: by your circumstances, will your status be determined; by people around you, will your future be shaped. The first step for making a breakthrough is—just go, and try to consult with those who really have the expertise.
