嚴定暹老師在《孫子兵法現代應用》課程中，講過一個非常精髓的觀念：「先勝後戰」。孫子在《形篇》中說：「故善戰者，立於不敗之地，而不失敵之敗也。是故，勝兵先勝而後求戰，敗兵先戰而後求勝」。
一個善於用兵打仗的人，懂得先讓自己立於不敗之地，而後不放過敵人漏洞，取得最終勝利。所以一支能打贏的隊伍，要先做到主動防禦，取得不敗優勢後，再和敵人交戰。莽撞發動進攻，往往會吃敗仗。

Conquer the Enemies with the Least Force; Hence, Get All the Benefits While the Troops Remain Strong; This Is the Way of Attacking by Stratagem. “Attack by Stratagem”
—Strategy for Perfect Victory; Benefits with Zero Cost.
第3場：
歸師勿遏，圍師必闕，窮寇勿迫。《軍爭》
——果而勿矜，果而勿強。
Session 3
Do Not Block the Home-going Troops; Leave a Crack When Surrounding the Enemy Army; Do Not Corner the Hopeless Foes. “Military Confrontation”
—Be Decisive but Never Stubborn; Be Decisive but Never Go Extreme.

昔之善戰者，先為不可勝，以待敵之可勝。《軍形》
——無懈可擊，無堅不摧。

In the Past, the Great Commander Focused on Being Undefeatable First, Then Waiting for the Right Time to Beat the Enemy. “The Forming of the Army”
—Be Completely Invincible; Be All Unstoppable.
第5場：
厚而不能使，愛而不能令，亂而不能治，譬若驕子，不可用也。《地形》
——害生於恩，士不可驕。

You Give Favors but No One Listens to You; You Love but You Can Not Enforce; Facing Disorder, You Are Incapable of Restoring Order. Just like a Spoilt Child, Useless. “Terrain”

掠鄉分眾，廓地分利，懸權而動。《軍爭》

——臨事而懼，好謀而成。

凡治眾如治寡，分數是也；鬥眾如鬥寡，形名是也。《兵勢》
——分權管理，指揮若定。

——在治思亂，防患未然。

——知敵之情，必取於人。

兵之情：圍則禦，不得已則鬥，過則從。《九地》
——破釜沉舟，背水一戰。

The Group Psychology of the Soldiers: Defend When Sieged; Fight When No Choice; Obey When in Extreme Circumstances. “The Nine Situations”
—Breaking the Cooking Pots and Sinking All the Ships, Fight with the Army’s Back to a Deep River
第12場：
其疾如風，其徐如林，侵掠如火，不動如山，難知如陰，動如雷震。《軍爭》
——道法天地，融會貫通。
Session 12
Be Swift as the Wind, Slow and Silent as the Forest, Fierce as the Fire, Immovable as the Mountain, Unpredictable as the Invisible, Strike as the Thunderbolt.
